Overview

In 2014, the Provost’s Faculty Advisory Committee on Online Learning (PFACOL) recommended:

• Establishing the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)

• Creating a Research Center devoted to building capacity in the learning sciences

PFACOL advocated that adopting ideas from the science of learning can and should impact,

“The way classes are taught, from simple re-sequencing of classroom activities to flipped classrooms”

“Whole re-design based on empirically tested theories of learning”

“Teaching itself should become an object of research, ideally in collaboration with learning scientists and educational researchers more generally”
